Shore Miles Gulf of Cleveland

Privacy

Updated October 17, 2026.

  • No accounts, no email, no tracking cookies. There are no analytics services, and the fonts come from this site itself. The only outside service any page loads is the banner ad from adengine.us on the public pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total. Shore Miles never reads your location, phone or watch: it only knows the distances you type in.
  • Journeys: we store the route, miles or kilometres, the nickname you chose (if any), each entry's date, activity and distance, when the journey was made and the day it was last opened, under a scrambled fingerprint (SHA-256) of your private link. The link itself is not stored in the database. A journey nobody opens for 400 days is deleted with its entries, and you can delete yours at any time from its page.
  • The link in server logs: your private link is part of the page address, and the web server's standard access log records page addresses. Those logs are kept for security and rotated by the host; they are not published.
  • Abuse limits: to stop one address making thousands of journeys or entries we count requests under a salted fingerprint of the address. Those counts are deleted after two days.
  • Cookies: pages with a form set one security cookie (it stops other sites submitting the form for you). No other cookies.
  • Backups: the database is backed up nightly (the newest 14 nightly copies are kept) and before and after each update (the newest 10 of those are kept). Older copies are deleted.
  • Payments (when checkout opens): PayPal handles them; we will keep only PayPal's reference number, the plan and the dates it covers.

Advertising

The public pages of Shore Miles (the home page, Routes, Pricing and How it works) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services. The start page, every journey page (with its certificate and CSV), this page, the terms and error pages show no ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.
